PHOENIX (AP) - A man accused in a fatal shooting last week in the town of Guadalupe is being held on a $750,000 bond.

David Joseph Ornelas had his initial appearance Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court. He doesn’t have a lawyer yet.

The 29-year-old Ornelas turned himself in Sunday to Phoenix police.

He’s been booked into the county jail on suspicion of one count of second-degree murder and one count of unlawful flight.

Police say Ornelas was wanted in connection with the April 13 death of Medardo Juarez.

They say Juarez was shot in a home and later died at a Phoenix hospital.

Police say Ornelas told investigators he and Juarez drank beer and smoke methamphetamine.

Ornelas says he felt threatened by Juarez, who appeared ready to fight before the shooting occurred.
