NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a Santa Fe woman has been arrested after being accused of stealing more than a quarter of a million dollars from her grandmother.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says it began investigating Charlotte Watts back in February, but the agency didn’t say what prompted the probe.

The TBI says that while investigating, agents discovered that Watts had stolen more than $250,000 from her grandmother while she was living with her in her Maury County home and acting as her caregiver. Authorities say Watts had power of attorney for her grandmother.

The Maury County grand jury indicted the 43-year-old granddaughter on Thursday, charging her with theft over $250,000. Watts was booked into Maury County jail on Friday. It’s not clear if she has an attorney.
