ALLEGAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan woman who pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of marijuana causing death in connection with a crash that killed a Holland couple has been sentenced to prison.
The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1OyEWXJ ) 23-year-old Ciara Byers of Grand Haven on Monday was sentenced to at least four years, nine months in prison.
She earlier entered the plea as part of a deal with prosecutors.
Police have said 69-year-old Robert John Kammeraad and his passenger, 68-year-old Susan Mae Kammeraad, died last June when the motorcycle they were on was hit in Allegan County’s Allegan Township, about 30 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
Byers, who wept during the hearing, apologized and told their family members she wished she could “do anything to bring your family back.”
