MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Three men face animal cruelty charges after they were arrested on suspicion of shooting at the wild burros that frequent the hills of Moreno Valley.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/1OBNj4U ) that 18-year-old Johnny Fabela, 29-year-old Joel Rodriguez, and 21-year-old Joel Rodriguez were arrested on suspicion of attempted animal cruelty and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, since they were shooting so close to homes.

According to a release from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported seeing the three men shooting at the animals Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses said no burros were harmed during the incident.
