MILLERSVILLE, Md. (AP) - Four Anne Arundel County detention officers have been charged with misconduct in office and bribery after police say they were smuggling contraband into an Annapolis jail.

The officers, including two 17-year veterans, were arrested Tuesday at the Jennifer Road Detention Center following a three-month investigation.

The county police department says the officers were smuggling contraband for inmates, including cigarettes, fast food, matches and a cellphone.

The superintendent of the Department of Detention Facilities says he’s disappointed in the officers but that their actions don’t reflect the honest and hard-working staff at the agency.

Those arrested are: 59-year-old Grayling Jackson of Severn; 41-year-old Kenyatta Trotter of Gwynn Oak; 25-year-old James Newsome Jr. of Mechanicsville; and 26-year-old Catherine Windsor of Lothian. No attorneys are listed for them in online court records.
