MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a bicyclist died after a car struck him on a South Florida causeway and threw him into the water below.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that the 25-year-old man was riding late Monday across the Julia Tuttle Causeway, which connects Miami and Miami Beach. Officials say a woman driving onto the causeway apparently swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, struck a concrete wall and then hit the bicyclist. The bike and rider went over a rail and into Biscayne Bay.
The Miami Herald (https://goo.gl/skabZ3 ) reports that a resident at a nearby condominium building called 911. A dive team responded and recovered the bicyclist’s body about an hour later.
FHP says charges are pending.
