ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The Craig public library is among 10 winners of a national award for its contributions to the southeast Alaska town.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced Tuesday the library is one of the winners of this year’s National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The award will be presented May 18 at a Washington D.C. event.

Institute officials say the award recognizes institutions with “extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service to make a difference for individuals, families, and communities.”

A news release from the institute says the Craig library was established in 1935 with a donation of 300 books. Institute officials say the library’s staff strives to provide services and resources that enrich lives.

The library this year is marking the library’s 80 years in the community.
