HOUSTON (AP) - A former Houston high school assistant principal has been sentenced to four months in jail after pleading guilty to having an improper relationship with a student.

Mark West admitted in court to having had sex with an 18-year-old female student in his Spring High School office during a 2012 prom event. He could have received up to 20 years in prison, and Evans asked for probation. Prosecutors asked for a 12-year prison term.

Instead, state District Judge Catherine Evans assessed the jail term Tuesday, to be followed by eight years of probation.

The Houston Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1DKt9ms) the 32-year-old former school administrator resigned after his 2013 arrest, and his wife testified that he is no longer working.
