MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Three members of a Cobb County family are charged with conspiracy after police say they created a fake GoFundMe page.

WSB-TV (https://bit.ly/1aOtERT) reports Joannessa Clawson, her husband, James Clawson, and her mother, Patti Ann Baldassarre, were arrested and charged with setting up the bogus account for the Clawson’s daughter, who they claimed was sick. People questioned whether her daughter was ill after they remembered that Joannessa Clawson had raised money last summer for a dying friend who apparently did not exist.

Some in the community contacted police.

Police charged the three after checking out the story at the elementary school the Clawson’s son attends.

Records show Clawson and her mother remain in jail. Clawson’s husband was released on bond.
