ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont school principal who resigned following allegations that he embezzled school fundraiser money has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Caledonian Record reports (https://bit.ly/1K1C8BR) Ed Webbley is accused of opening a safe at the Danville School in February and taking nearly $1,600 in cash and checks. Court records say the act was recorded on a security camera.

The money was discovered missing from the safe, but then found again in March.

The 60-year-old Webbley had been on administrative leave without pay since Feb. 17. He resigned March 2.
