WASHINGTON (AP) - George Washington University has announced the sale of a historic schoolhouse in Georgetown that it acquired during the breakup of the Corcoran Gallery of Art.

The university said Tuesday it has reached an agreement for the nonprofit S&R; Foundation to purchase the Corcoran’s Fillmore building. The Washington-based foundation says it plans to maintain arts education programs at the site. It plans to create an arts incubator for visual and performing artists.

The building was listed for $14 million. A university spokeswoman says the final sale price will not be revealed until the sale is completed this summer.

Under terms of GW’s acquisition of the Corcoran, the university will use funds from the sale of the Fillmore to renovate the Corcoran’s historic museum building near the White House.
