DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The nation’s top publisher of magazines and websites for women has announced the layoffs of about 100 employees, one-third of which are in Des Moines.

Meredith Corp. spokesman Art Slusark said Tuesday the job cuts are a result of the Des Moines-based company’s recent acquisition of several new businesses, including Shape and Martha Stewart Living magazines. The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1OcfNY3 ) another third of the layoffs are in New York and the rest elsewhere in the country.

Meredith cites redundancies as the cause for the layoffs, which Slusark says became apparent as the company absorbed the new businesses.

Slusark says the cuts have been spread throughout the company and aren’t concentrated in any one area. Some were effective immediately and others will take effect upon completion of certain projects.
