BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Democratic lawmakers are hitting the road this week to sell their budget plan to the Maine public.

House Speaker Mark Eves and Senate Minority Leader Justin Alfond will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday at the Hammond Street Congregational Church in Bangor. They’ll be joined by lawmakers who represent local residents.

Democrats are promoting the tax overhaul plan that they presented earlier this month as an alternative to Republican Gov. Paul LePage’s budget proposal.

Democrats say LePage’s plan to cut the income tax primarily benefits the wealthy and corporations. They are also proposing to trim the income tax, but only for people that make less than $150,000 a year.

LePage has already held several town hall meetings to discuss his tax plan.
