WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A man from Apex will have to spend more than five years in prison after pleading guilty to running over a Marine from Camp Lejeune in his car.
Area media outlets report that 20-year-old Jackson Davies pleaded guilty and was sentenced Monday to between five years and about seven-and-a-half years in prison. He will also have to serve five years of probation upon release.
Davies entered a plea to voluntary manslaughter and felony death by motor vehicle in the death of 22-year-old Cory Richard Reese in February of last year. Authorities say death occurred following a dispute outside a fraternity party in Wilmington.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dismissed a second-degree murder charge.
