FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky sheriff says a man who spent decades as a fugitive after escaping custody in North Carolina has turned himself in to authorities.
Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton says 66-year-old Clarence David Moore was arrested Monday. He says Moore was taken to a hospital to be evaluated before being taken to the county jail.
According to media reports, Moore escaped in the 1970s from North Carolina, where he was in custody for a larceny conviction.
Melton says Moore was emotional when authorities took him into custody.
The sheriff says Moore is facing a contempt of court charge in Franklin County for failure to appear.
He says Moore was cited years ago for not having a driver’s license when he was involved in a traffic accident.
