DETROIT (AP) - A judge has concluded that a 26-year-old Detroit woman accused of strangling her 2-year-old son is mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Priyanka Chakraborty is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of her son Feb. 6. An autopsy concluded that Omraj Chakraborty was strangled.

The mother faces life in prison without parole if convicted as charged.

On Feb. 18, 2015, Detroit District Judge Ronald Giles referred her for an exam to see if she was criminally responsible and competent for trial. On Tuesday, the judge determined she’s incompetent.

Chakraborty is to receive treatment and return to court July 21.
