RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina State says defensive end Ty Linton is leaving the program to pursue a career as a pilot.
Linton said in a statement issued Tuesday by the school that he is transferring to Middle Tennessee State to enroll in its aeronautical science program.
He says “my dream has always been to become a pilot,” and described himself as being 25 years old “with two knee surgeries behind me and no ambition to play football at the next level.”
Linton is a Charlotte native who played three years as an outfielder in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ farm system before joining N.C. State’s football program in January 2014.
He never played in a game with the Wolfpack, sitting out the season after injuring an anterior cruciate ligament during spring practice.
