NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska City’s new mayor is a 26-year veteran of the U.S. Army who’s lived in the Missouri River community since 2009.

The City Council voted unanimously last week to appoint Bryan Bequette to serve the remaining term left by Jack Hobbie, who quit the post on Feb. 26. Hobbie has said his resignation was “primarily due to a lack of respect and communication with me as the mayor” and complained that he was blindsided when the council decided not to retain the city administrator and clerk-treasurer in their jobs.

Bequette was one of five applicants for the mayor’s job. He is a supervisor in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service office in Lincoln. He and his wife own a business in the city, The Keeping Room.
