LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Lexington police plan to step up patrols around the University of Kentucky campus following the fatal shooting of a student last week.

Lt. Thomas Curtsinger told Lexington-Fayette County Urban County Council members Tuesday that patrols will be increased during times when students are on the streets. The Lexington Herald-Leader (https://bit.ly/1yPp2H4 ) said council member Jake Gibbs reported receiving many phone calls from constituents worried about the shooting.

University junior Jonathan Krueger of Ohio was killed early Friday while walking near campus. Two men and a 17-year-old have been charged with murder and robbery in Krueger’s death.

Officials said Krueger died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
