MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Police have called off the search for a suspect who led police on a high speed chase through two states traveling westbound on Interstate 20.

WTOK-TV (https://bit.ly/1Qd0CMI ) reports a suspect fled into the woods near the I-20 and I-59 split near Meridian after wrecking his vehicle on police spike strips.

Meridian Detective Dareall Thompson says officers think the suspect may have left the area and officers didn’t get a good enough description to keep searching.

The chase started near the Alabama state line and hit speeds as high as 120 miles per hour. State troopers in Mississippi say the getaway vehicle was stolen. Thompson says the vehicle in the chase may have also been involved in an armed robbery between Georgia and Mississippi.
