SALEM, Ore. (AP) - The state has filed a countersuit against the family of a Portland boy who fell 60 feet in Silver Park Falls State Park.

The Statesman Journal reports (https://stjr.nl/1HR0Vtb) 10-year-old Wilson Pelot fell in January 2014 after leaning against a broken railing on a trail near Lower South Falls. He fractured his wrist and spine and punctured his lung, among several other injuries.

Pelot’s family sued in February 2015, seeking up to $875,000 and saying the park failed to warn visitors properly of the danger posed by the weak railing.

The state countersued the family April 16, saying the Pelots were negligent by failing to properly supervise their kids while at the park.
