He was appointed the club’s captain before the 2010-11 season.

Frontzek replaced Tayfun Korkut on Monday. Korkut was fired after 13 winless matches. Hannover is now only one place and two points above Paderborn, which currently occupies the relegation playoff place.

The Bundesliga’s bottom two clubs are relegated. The team that finishes third from last has a two-leg playoff against the second division’s third-place team to try to salvage top-tier status.
