BAKER, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a suspected car thief who led them on a 200-mile chase through Southern California.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1aMepJj ) says California Highway Patrol officers arrested the driver Monday in Baker, a Mojave Desert pit stop on the route to Las Vegas.

The chase began about 2 ½ hours earlier in the San Diego County city of Fallbrook.

The CHP says an officer spotted a reportedly stolen BMW sedan.

The pursuit along Interstate 15 continued into San Bernardino and Riverside counties, sometimes at 100 mph. Finally, the car stopped on the shoulder of the road in Baker, about 80 miles from Vegas.

The CHP says 47-year-old Charles Bouvier Williams could face charges of car theft and evading police.
