CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a construction site accident that killed a western New York man and injured two others when a crane moving a steel beam struck power lines.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old John Trout of Marion in Wayne County had delivered a load of I-beams from a Rochester company to a construction site in Canandaigua late Tuesday afternoon.

Trout extended the boom of the truck’s crane and came into contact with overhead power lines, electrifying his vehicle. Trout was electrocuted and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two construction workers standing near the beam were shocked. Deputies say one suffered a minor injury, but the other suffered serious burns to his hand, scalp and back. He’s listed in guarded condition at a Rochester hospital.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
