SANFORD, N.C. (AP) - Two Lee County jailers have been fired after four inmates at the county jail were found with cellphones.

Local media outlets report that one of the jailers, 35-year-old Robert Ellis Fleming of Sanford, has also been jailed on charges of providing an inmate a cellphone, aiding and abetting an inmate to have a cellphone and with receiving a bribe.

It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.

Authorities did not release the name of the other jail employee who was fired.

The sheriff began an investigation earlier this month after the inmates were found with the cellphones. All the inmates are now charged with possessing contraband.
