CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Duke Energy is warning boaters on lakes in the Charlotte area that they should watch for debris in the water after heavy rains in the past week.

The Charlotte Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1cZiSKf ) that Duke’s warning applies to Lake Norman and other lakes in the Catawba/Wateree river basin.

The Charlotte utility says the large amount of water moving down the Catawba River and the resulting high lake levels can create debris, including logs and branches, as well as loose structures and watercraft.

Duke Energy manages Lake Norman and other lakes in the basin under federal license.

The Lake Norman Marine Commission advises boaters to use extreme caution during daylight and to avoid the lake at night.
