ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Environmentalists are heading to the state Capitol on Earth Day to lobby with lawmakers.

A handful of state lawmakers will join with conservation groups Wednesday to outline action they say is needed to make New York state the nation’s environmental leader. The groups are seeking action on issues ranging from climate change to oil trains.

Scheduled to speak at news conference are the chairs of the state Legislature’s environmental conservation committees, Sen. Tom O’Mara and Assemblyman Steve Englebright.

Groups taking part in the Earth Day event include Environmental Advocates of New York, The Nature Conservancy of New York and Riverkeeper.
