FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) - The Lane County commissioners have named a sheriff.
KCST-FM reports (https://bit.ly/1GXtemN ) that Chief Deputy Byron Trapp will succeed Tom Turner. Turner is resigning to take over as Florence police chief.
The commissioners interviewed both Trapp and the former Florence chief, Maury Sanders, on Wednesday. Commissioners said Sanders was qualified but chose Trapp unanimously.
He’ll hold the position until a special election next year. He says he will be a candidate for the job.
