HOUSTON (AP) - A Central Texas man convicted of forcing a schoolgirl into prostitution and advertising online has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Bobby Barrett of Killeen, who had the victim’s high school identification badge when he was arrested, was sentenced Wednesday in Houston.

The 31-year-old Barrett last July was convicted of sex trafficking of a minor with force, fraud or coercion. He also was convicted of transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, in cases in Houston and Shreveport, Louisiana.

The investigation began in October 2013 after the victim was detained during a law enforcement operation in Houston. Prosecutors say Barrett posted her bond, then took the 17-year-old to Louisiana for another prostitution operation.

The girl, who was rescued, said Barrett knew she was a minor.
