MIAMI (AP) - A police union president is taking the Miami Police Department’s assistant chief to task for not covering her heart with her hand during the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Miami Herald (https://hrld.us/1biaHYx ) reports Anita Najiy stood at attention, arms at her side last week as the city’s four other top command staffers covered their hearts.

In a letter to Police Chief Rodolfo Llanes, Fraternal Order of Police President Javier Ortiz accused Najiy of not having “respect for the flag or the United States.”

While the department’s code of conduct allows for a reprimand if an officer doesn’t salute the flag it makes no mention of covering the heart during the pledge.

Maj. Delrish Moss says the military code of conduct supercedes police code and that Najiy properly followed that code.
