BIRDSALL, N.Y. (AP) - State police say the search for a missing 3-year-old girl ended with her being found sitting by a stream about a mile from her family’s rural western New York home.
Troopers say they were alerted by Allegany County 911 dispatchers around 3 p.m. Tuesday that a toddler was reported missing in the town of Birdsall, 60 miles southeast of Buffalo.
Police say the girl had walked out a back door of her home with the family dog.
Troopers, state forest rangers and county emergency management personnel launched a search of the adjoining state land, which is heavily wooded.
Officials say a search team located the girl around 6:20 p.m. sitting by a stream. She was reunited with her parents and then taken to Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville for treatment of minor hypothermia.
