COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Officials say a suburban Burlington man is in custody after he pointed a firearm at a sheriff’s deputy attempting to serve him with an eviction notice.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1bsJyTq ) the man had a two-hour standoff with Colchester police and the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday night.

Several nearby homes were evacuated while negotiators tried to communicate with the man, who Colchester Sgt. Francis Gonyaw says refused to be compliant. Police were able to take the man into custody without any injuries to him or the officers involved.

His arraignment is set for Wednesday morning in Vermont Superior Court on charges of aggravated assault on police and disorderly conduct.
