BOSTON (AP) - A new poll suggests that Gov. Charlie Baker is off to a strong start in the court of public opinion.

A survey of 500 registered Massachusetts voters conducted for Suffolk University finds the Republican who took office in January has a 74 percent favorability rating, with only 8 percent viewing him unfavorably.

Baker had a similar strong job approval rating of 70 percent, with only 6 percent saying they disapproved of the job he was doing so far.

The poll was taken from April 16-21 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percent. Baker marked his 100th day in office last Friday.

Suffolk University polling director David Paleologos said it appeared voters were giving high grades to Baker for his leadership during record-breaking winter snowfall.
