PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Portland police have charged a man they allege entered a neighbor’s home and assaulted her with a knife.

Charles Carswell has been charged with threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, assault, and burglary in connection with the alleged break-in late Monday night. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Police say the woman was alone watching television when she noticed Carswell standing over her with a knife. Police say Carswell threatened her and they struggled. The woman was cut on her hand but fled and called police. She recognized Carswell as a neighbor and he was found at his home.

Carswell is being held in jail on $20,000 cash bail and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
