ATLANTA (AP) - A man last seen swimming in the Chattahoochee River is believed to have drowned.

WXIA-TV (https://on.11alive.com/1DLOrAa ) reports rescue crews made three sweeps Tuesday afternoon for the man, who was swimming with friends near a spot called Diving Rock. Rescue crews say they will resume the search Wednesday morning when the sun comes up.

Authorities say they were alerted to people in the river needing help after they got stuck in the fast-moving water. Everyone other than the man was rescued.

Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce says the water level is up due to rain over the past few days and the river is swift. He also said water would be in the 30 to 40 degree range, making it difficult to survive for swimmers.
