RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Green Mountain Power wants customers to know about a phone scam in which the caller claims to represent the power company and demands payment.
The caller claims to be from GMP’s billing and disconnect division.
GMP says this is a phone scam. It says the utility follows state rules when working with customers about paying past due bills and does not demand credit card information or alternate payment mechanisms from a customer for any purpose.
Anyone who receives such a call is advised not give out any personal information, including account or credit card numbers.
The attorney general’s office also recommends reporting the scams by calling 1-800-649-2424 from outside of Chittenden County or 1-802-656-1423 in Chittenden County.
