CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a man was killed and two women were injured when a boat ran aground in Charleston Harbor.

The Coast Guard tells local media outlets that the man was thrown from the small boat after it ran aground on a small island in the harbor between 11 p.m. and midnight on Thursday. The two women, who remained in the boat, were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.

The boat ran aground on an island called Shutes Folly not far from the Ravenel Bridge that links Charleston and Mount Pleasant. On the island stand the remnants of a 19th Century fortification called Castle Pinckney.
