PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities are trying to identify a body found inside a Prescott home following a fire.
Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say deputies were dispatched to the scene late Thursday.
They say 66-year-old John Stenson told deputies his 67-year-old wife was still in a bedroom inside the burning home.
Stenson says he fell asleep in the living room and awoke to the sound of a smoke detector alert and a house filled with smoke.
When he went to check on his wife in the bedroom, Stenson was driven back from the doorway due to extreme heat, smoke and flames. He ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911.
Prescott firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze and found a body.
The county Medical Examiner’s Office will determine if it’s the body of Linda Stenson.
