PATAGONIA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Colorado woman is dead after a car crash on State Route 82 between Sonoita and Patagonia in southern Arizona.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say 38-year-old Meggan E. Smoler, of Boulder, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred about 3:30 a.m. Friday.

DPS officials say Smoler wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

They say Smoler apparently drove across the centerline and into a commercial vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

The commercial vehicle swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the crash.

DPS officials say Smoler’s vehicle struck the rear axle of the commercial vehicle, dislodging the axle from the trailer.

They say the driver of the commercial vehicle escaped injury.
