BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A 51-year-old prison escapee with outstanding felony warrants has been arrested on charges that he stole and crashed a vehicle into two women driving to church, killing them both.

AL.com reports (https://bit.ly/1QriRyi ) that police issued arrest warrants Friday for Martin Creasman, who they say stole a pickup truck from an auto shop in Birmingham and crashed into a car carrying 92-year-old Margie Lovell and 69-year-old Linda Jones.

The website reported that Creasman had been arrested 60 times previously and convicted of 28 felonies before Wednesday’s deadly crash.

Police said in a statement that Creasman escaped April 8 from a work-release center in Decatur.

He remained under police guard at UAB Hospital on Friday afternoon. It was not known if he had an attorney.
