MACON, Ga. (AP) - Charges have been upgraded against a central Georgia man accused of shooting at two men who were fishing on Lake Tobesofkee.

Bibb County District Attorney David Cooke says 24-year-old Basil Ghali is now charged with aggravated assault. Ghali was initially charged with the misdemeanor charge of reckless conduct with a firearm.

The Telegraph of Macon reports (https://bit.ly/1yWuK9F) Bibb County Sheriff David Davis has said that responding deputies mishandled the case and five have been disciplined.

The fishermen reported that gunshots were fired at them from a house in March. Deputies went to the man’s home but said they weren’t allowed inside. They went back days later but found no gun.

Ghali’s attorney, Laura Hogue, says he didn’t know anyone was on the lake and recently surrendered to cooperate with investigators.
