PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - A cat is recovering in upstate New York after her owners awoke to sounds of her crying. When they found her covered in blood, they rushed her to an animal hospital.

WPTZ reports (https://bit.ly/1OPknGG ) Martha Passino and Randy LaBarge thought 1-year-old Kloe had been hit by a car early Tuesday morning. But doctors at Plattsburgh Animal Hospital found her leg had been shattered by a gunshot.

Dr. Joseph Church inserted an 8-inch pin into her broken limb along with about a dozen staples to try to save her leg.

When Passino and LaBarge returned home they found another animal had been shot in their backyard. A state trooper euthanized the seagull and police are investigating the shootings.

Passino and LaBarge expect to pay more than $2,000 for Kloe’s recovery.
