SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Sparks police have arrested a man who allegedly tried to steal a vehicle with a 13-year-old girl in the back seat.

The girl’s father called 911 about 7:30 a.m. Thursday to report his daughter was in the car when the thief took off from the 1500 block of 1st Street.

The father chased the vehicle on foot northbound on 1st Street, before the suspect drove through a stop sign at Greenbrae Drive and turned east onto Greenbrae.

Several officers and detectives responded to the area and located the teenager exiting the vehicle unharmed.

They say the girl apparently fought with the suspect, forcing him to abandon his plan.

Officers later tracked him down. They say 26-year-old Daniel Klatt-Steinbruck has been charged with robbery, grand larceny auto theft and endangering a child.
