WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - A suspect arrested in the shooting death of a Springfield man was being held without bail after pleading not guilty to second-degree murder on Friday.

Gregory A. Smith of Springfield is charged in the shooting death of Wesley J. Wing last weekend.

The 30-year-old Smith was arrested Thursday in camper in South Londonderry. A girlfriend arrested with him, Wendy Morris, 25, pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact. Her bail was set at $10,000.

Another one of Smith’s girlfriends in Keene, New Hampshire, is facing charges that she helped him evade capture.

Police said Wing, 37, confronted Morris outside his home Saturday afternoon, accusing her of using heroin and bringing drug traffic into the neighborhood, the Rutland Herald ( ) reported.

“We had a citizen who confronted a person he felt was dealing drugs,” Springfield Police Chief Douglas Johnston said.

Morris then drove home and returned with Smith and confronted Wing as he walked to a market about a quarter-mile away, police said. Wing was shot four times in the chest and abdomen. He died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, police said.
