NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (AP) - Two National City men have been sentenced to life in prison by a judge who says they took the life of a 21-year-old developmentally impaired man “for a thrill.”

The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday (https://lat.ms/1ddKOdw) that San Diego County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Fraser handed down the sentences Friday, calling defendants Humberto Galvez and Juan Ignacio Gomez “weak cowards.”

Prosecutors say 22-year-old Galvez fired a shotgun three times at Jordan Hickey as he pushed his bicycle near his home in National City in April 2011. Authorities say 24-year-old Gomez drove his cousin by Hickey as he fired the shots.

During Gomez’s trial, testimony indicated that the cousins were looking for someone to kill for the “thrill.”
