SELMA, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have charged a Department of Transportation subcontractor in the death of motorcyclist.

Local media outlets say the crash was first reported around 7:45 a.m. Friday.

Investigators say William Pittman was moving to a new spot to mow along North Carolina 42 east of Clayton when he pulled into the road and collided with 31-year-old Anthony Suggs Jr. Suggs was thrown from his bike, which was destroyed by the impact.

State transportation officials say Pittman is a contract worker with a Grifton-based company. He was not injured.

Authorities say Suggs was wearing a helmet and that speed wasn’t a factor in the crash.

Pittman is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and is scheduled to face a judge in July. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
