WATERTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - A group that plans to erect a monument to the 10th Mountain Division in a northern New York park has chosen a design for the public tribute.

The Watertown Daily Times (https://bit.ly/1EnlVq3 ) reports that the design chosen by the nine-member group is a 15-foot-tall granite monument featuring three bronze plaques depicting the Army division’s history from World War II to the present.

The group plans to launch its public fundraising campaign next month for the North Country Honors the Mountain monument to be erected in Thompson Park in Watertown, near the division’s base at Fort Drum.

The monument, expected to be unveiled in July 2016, will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the reactivation of the 10th Mountain Division in 1985.
