BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Hundreds of people gathered in two Indiana cities for vigils honoring an Indiana University student who was found beaten to death.

The Indianapolis Star reports (https://indy.st/1GtTdTK ) that about 1,500 IU students gathered Saturday evening at the Bloomington campus’ Alumni Hall for an emotional vigil for 22-year-old Hannah N. Wilson.

Several hundred people also attended a vigil at the Indiana Elite competitive cheerleading gym in the Indianapolis suburb of Noblesville, where Wilson competed for six years before heading off to college.

Hundreds of balloons were released in her memory during both vigils.

A coroner said Saturday that Wilson, whose body was found Friday in rural Brown County northeast of Bloomington, had been beaten to death.

A 49-year-old Bloomington man is being held on a preliminary murder charge in her death.
