MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa man who caused a crash that killed a Mason City motorcyclist has pleaded guilty to two counts.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1JoQwGI ) that 47-year-old Victor Rivera pleaded guilty Friday to vehicular homicide and failure to stop at the scene of a fatal crash.
Authorities say Rivera pulled in front of Jefferson Davis’ motorcycle on Nov. 22. Davis died, and a 40-year-old woman on the bike was hurt. Rivera admitted to driving drunk the day of the crash.
In exchange for his plea, Rivera won’t be charged as a habitual offender, and another charge was dropped. He will also be able to serve his sentence at the same time as two others in separate cases. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 17 to 25 years.
