PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a Chinese food deliveryman shot and killed while dropping off an order in northeast Philadelphia.
Police say 49-year-old Rendong Zheng of north Philadelphia was killed shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday while making a delivery to the Hill Creek Apartments in the city’s Crescentville neighborhood.
Investigators said at least a dozen shots were fired, and one of them hit the New China Chinese restaurant employee in the shoulder. Police said he was able to drive away from the gunfire before losing consciousness and crashing through a fence. He was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Police are scouring surveillance video in the area and trying to identify suspects; they said the motive for the shooting is unclear.
